Zeynab Javadli, the former wife of the nephew of a Dubai judge, was detained amid a deepening conflict over custody of her three young daughters.
According to Oxu.Az, citing official sources, the BBC reported this information.
The Dubai Public Prosecution stated that Javadli's detention was due to a complaint by her ex-husband and father of her three children, Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Since Tuesday night, Javadli's family and relatives have lost contact with her and are worried about her whereabouts. For two days, no news was available about the former athlete or her children.
According to the Dubai Prosecutor's Office, her ex-husband claims that the woman kidnapped their children during a court-authorized visit. Last year, Sheikh Saeed filed a police complaint accusing her of kidnapping their daughters.
The Dubai Public Prosecution stated that the matter is under investigation and legal procedures are ongoing: "We will continue to take the necessary legal steps, in accordance with applicable legislation, protecting the welfare and best interests of the children."
In response, British human rights lawyer David Haigh, defending Zeynab Javadli's rights, called on the UAE to allow Javadli to immediately contact her lawyer, consulate, and family, and to release her to her home in Dubai.
