Russia has decided to close the Romanian consulate in St. Petersburg and expel the Romanian consul from the country.
According to Oxu.Az citing TASS, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) issued a statement on the matter.
On June 25, Romanian Ambassador to Russia Cristian Istrate was summoned to the Russian MFA. He was handed a note declaring the Romanian Consul General in St. Petersburg "persona non grata" and closing the consular office.
These measures are in response to Bucharest's unjustified revocation of its consent for the operation of the Russian Consulate General in Constanța and the declaration of its head as "persona non grata."
