Nissan Motor has announced a recall campaign covering 600,595 vehicles in Japan. The issue is a defect in the lithium-ion battery control unit.
The recall includes the Note, Note Aura, and X-Trail hybrid models produced between November 2020 and April 2026.
A software error in the electronic control unit causes false signals about mechanical faults. This limits or cuts off power to the engine, risking sudden stops while driving.
So far, 452 complaints have been filed, and one incident resulted in property damage. No injuries have been reported.
Nissan will update the battery management software for free on all recalled vehicles.
