Chinese car brands have reached a record market share in Europe.
According to Bloomberg, in May 2026, one in every ten new cars sold in Europe was made in China.
Hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, especially the MG S9 crossover, drove this growth. Chinese brands now account for nearly a quarter of hybrid sales.
Chinese cars attract European buyers with rich features and affordable prices, putting pressure on local manufacturers like Volkswagen, Stellantis, and Renault.
Although the EU is discussing additional tariffs on Chinese EVs, May's data shows that interest in Chinese-made cars continues to rise despite political and trade barriers.
