Many people follow all sleep hygiene recommendations yet wake up tired after eight hours in bed. Psychologist José Martín del Pliego explained the hidden reason in an interview with Hola magazine.
According to del Pliego, morning fatigue after a night's sleep often stems from the nervous system remaining active during sleep. If a person lives under constant stress or cannot manage emotional issues, the body does not feel safe even while in bed.
"Our body stays in a state of high alert and does not fully rest. We may think we are sleeping, but our brain and body remain constantly vigilant," he said.
The psychologist emphasized that increasing sleep duration or taking supplements will not resolve morning fatigue. Instead, it is essential to use psychoeducation methods, learn to protect personal boundaries, and say "no" when necessary. An inability to say no is one of the most common causes of emotional exhaustion.
Del Pliego added that spending more time with positive people, being in nature, engaging in regular physical activity, and temporarily reducing information overload can also help reduce morning fatigue.
