Air travel can worsen certain diseases due to pressure changes, low oxygen, and immobility. Therapist Shota Kalandiya told RT about key contraindications.
Acute cardiovascular diseases are top contraindications. Those who had a heart attack or stroke should avoid flying for 4-6 weeks.
Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, severe asthma, or thrombosis risk are also vulnerable. Prolonged sitting slows blood flow and raises clot risk.
Temporary avoidance is advised after surgery, during infections, or exacerbations of ENT diseases like sinusitis and otitis. Severe pregnancy is another case.
Kalandiya recommends getting up, wearing compression stockings, and keeping essential meds in carry-on luggage.
