Silver clouds shine at the edge of space. They form 80 km above Earth's surface.
Microscopic ice crystals cling to meteor dust. Temperatures drop to -120°C. These clouds appear in summer.
Methane gas is their foundation. Methane from swamps and landfills rises, then ultraviolet light turns it into water vapor.
Expert Burmistrov says: "Silver clouds indicate methane levels." Methane has increased over 150 years, making clouds brighter.
Interestingly, methane cools the upper atmosphere. Ice crystals are 1,000 times thinner than hair, creating a blue-silver hue through Rayleigh scattering.
