Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has officially announced that Norway has joined France's nuclear deterrence system.
According to Reuters, the decision was made amid the security situation in Europe and Russia's military buildup.
The Prime Minister stated that this step is related to increasing security risks in Europe.
On May 27, he visited Paris and signed a defense agreement with President Emmanuel Macron.
Under the agreement, the deployment of nuclear weapons on Norwegian territory is not envisaged during peacetime.
The French president had indicated in 2025 that he was open to discussions about a "nuclear umbrella" for European allies. Previously, Poland joined this initiative, and Lithuania has shown interest.
Although Norway is a NATO member, it is considered one of the countries diversifying its security policy in Europe, alongside the US.
