Swimming in ponds and stagnant water bodies with contact lenses poses a serious threat to eye health.
Russian ophthalmologist Aleksey Yegorov told 360.ru that in stagnant waters, acanthamoeba, a microorganism that endangers the eyes, can enter under the lens and multiply.
This microorganism causes "acanthamoeba keratitis," a disease that is difficult to treat.
He advises swimming without lenses or removing them immediately after swimming and rinsing eyes with a special antiseptic solution.
Yegorov emphasizes that contact lenses are safe if used correctly. However, they are strictly forbidden during eye inflammation or corneal injury.
