An unknown animal attacked and mauled a person in Japan.

According to Oxu.Az, citing "Japan Today," the incident occurred near Tokyo.

Half-eaten human remains were discovered in a mountainous area west of Tokyo. The victim's identity and gender have not yet been determined.

Large predator tracks were found near the mutilated body. Investigators suspect a bear attack but haven't ruled out other wild animals.

A backpack and trekking poles were found at the scene.
