The US Armed Forces plan to begin mass production of cheap cruise missiles from September 2026.
This was announced by US Air Force Chief of Staff General Kenneth Wilsbach during Senate hearings.
According to him, missiles developed under the FAMM program are nearing the production stage. Wilsbach stated that mass production of cheaper missiles compared to traditional systems like Tomahawk and AGM-158 JASSM is crucial to enhance combat capability.
He noted that recent conflicts in the Middle East and Europe show that large-scale weapons production and rapid stockpile replenishment create a strategic advantage.
Congressman Pat Ryan said that during wartime, the US's heavy use of missiles increases the risk of rapid depletion of existing arsenals, and the current production pace cannot fill this gap for years.
