Uzbekistan has given two villages to Kyrgyzstan in exchange for border lands.
According to Oxu.Az citing Aif.ru, Kyrgyzstan's presidential press secretary Askat Alaqozov reported this.
The villages in question are Chongar and Tash-Tobo, which were previously part of Uzbekistan's Fergana region. Around 2,500 ethnic Kyrgyz live there.
Additionally, the countries exchanged land plots totaling 236 hectares for the construction of a road from Say village to Tayana in Kyrgyzstan.
"This will allow traveling from Aydarken to Batken in 55 km instead of 225 km along the detour," the press secretary explained.
The document on the land exchange was signed by the presidents of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in June 2026 during the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Border Delimitation.
The official transfer of the lands will take place after all procedures are completed.
