European Commissioner for Mediterranean Affairs Dubravka Šuica secretly visited Israel amid a conflict between Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar and EU diplomatic chief Kaja Kallas.
According to Oxu.Az, this was reported by Europe's 'Politico' outlet. The visit was not announced in advance and only became known after the commissioner arrived in Israel.
An unnamed EU diplomat told the outlet that the visit was kept secret for security reasons. Another EU representative, however, found it strange that Kallas was meeting with Arab League leaders in Jordan at the same time.
According to Politico's sources, Šuica's main task was to extend the 'EUBAM Rafah' border assistance mission and the 'EUPOL COPPS' mission for three months.
