Azerbaijan is taking important steps towards the green energy transition. Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov spoke at Baku Energy Week.
He participated in a panel discussion on mapping rooftop solar photovoltaic potential at the 31st International Caspian Oil and Gas Exhibition.
The deputy minister stated that the government is investing heavily in renewable energy. Integration of 2 GW of capacity into the national grid is planned by next year.
This capacity will generate 5 billion kWh of electricity annually. It will prevent 2.4 million tons of carbon emissions and save 1.1 billion cubic meters of gas.
Orkhan Zeynalov noted that Azerbaijan's onshore solar potential is 135 GW. Rooftop systems have a capacity of 9.4 GW and a clean energy generation potential of 11.8 GW.
The government has declared Karabakh, East Zangezur, and Nakhchivan as green energy zones. Rooftop PV programs are a vital part of this development.
Cooperation with the World Bank continues. Expansion of research and attraction of investors are planned.
There are extensive opportunities for rooftop PV projects in Baku, Nakhchivan, Agdam, Jabrayil, Khankendi, Shusha, Julfa, Gubadli, and Zangilan.
