Despite an increase in fish production, domestic demand remains unmet. Most fish sold in markets are imported or farmed through aquaculture.
According to a video report by AzTV, vendors mainly offer farel fish. Sellers note that part of the demand is covered by imports.
Jeyhun Aliyev, director of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Center, says annual aquaculture production is about 3,500-4,000 tons. This covers only a small portion of domestic consumption.
Buyers report limited choices, though some are satisfied with available products. Prices vary by species, weight, and origin.
