Global Copper Crisis: Impact on Azerbaijan?

How will the global copper crisis affect Azerbaijan? Rising copper prices bring both opportunities and challenges to the economy.

Copper is one of the world's most strategic raw materials. Recently, wars and tensions have caused serious supply issues, pushing prices above $14,000 per ton.

This price surge will hit electronics, automotive, construction, and renewable energy sectors. Electric vehicles use 80-100 kg of copper, making them even more expensive.

Azerbaijan is both a copper exporter and importer, so the impact is two-sided. Copper exports are rising: in January 2026, export value reached $20.5 million.

However, since we import many finished goods like home appliances and electronics, their prices will increase. Resolving the crisis requires easing tensions around Iran.
