Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama announced that some Japanese financial institutions have been granted access to OpenAI's GPT-5.5 model to defend against cyberattacks.
Speaking after a meeting with OpenAI's Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon in Tokyo, Katayama called it a welcome development and a big step forward.
While the names of the institutions were not disclosed, the Nikkei newspaper reported that Japan's three biggest banks - MUFG, Sumitomo Mitsui, and Mizuho - are expected to gain access.
