The Azerbaijani Parliament has approved in the first reading stricter penalties for organizing online gambling.
According to the bill, virtual gambling via internet, mobile networks, social media, or other electronic means will be punishable by a fine of up to twice the criminal proceeds and imprisonment for 2 to 4 years.
Aggravating circumstances such as involving minors, prior conspiracy, or large-scale income lead to 3 to 5 years of imprisonment.
If committed by an organized group, the penalty will be 5 to 8 years of imprisonment.
