Bank of England policymaker Megan Greene said that demand for stablecoins could soon fade, replaced by tokenised deposits.

Speaking at a conference in Dubrovnik, Greene stated: "I think tokenised deposits are probably going to take over from stablecoins. Five years from now, we might wonder why we were talking about stablecoins."

In contrast, US Federal Reserve official Christopher Waller defended stablecoins as a financial innovation that could reduce costs.
