The criminal act of the late colonel Mayis Orujaliyev, former deputy commander of the Air Force, has been uncovered.
He is accused of embezzlement on an especially large scale. The investigation was conducted by the Military Prosecutor's Office. The damage to the state amounts to nearly 1 million manats.
The suspect's wife has been recognized as the legal heir. Although Orujaliyev's guilt is proven, the case will be closed without exonerating grounds due to his death. The damage may be compensated from the deceased's assets.
Articles 179.4 (embezzlement on an especially large scale) and 341.2.3 (abuse of official powers resulting in grave consequences) are among the serious corruption crimes.
Colonel Orujaliyev served for a long time as deputy to Lieutenant General Ramiz Tahirov. He died of illness in 2022 at the age of 57.
A similar case occurred with the late Lieutenant General Fuad Mammadov, former deputy defense minister and head of the Main Logistic Support Department. He and two company employees were accused of embezzlement. Due to Mammadov's death, his legal heir represented him. Five years after his death, the court closed the case without exonerating grounds. The deceased's large land plot in Badamdar, country house in Mardakan, expensive cars, and other valuable assets were confiscated in favor of the state.
