The Court of Justice of the European Union has registered a lawsuit by Russian singer Polina Gagarina. According to Oxu.Az citing RBK, the claim was filed on May 25 and is currently under review.
The Council of the European Union is named as the defendant. Gagarina had previously appealed to the court in October 2024 to lift the sanctions.
She accuses the EU Council of violating her rights to effective judicial protection, freedom of opinion, and creative freedom. The singer was added to the sanctions list on June 24, 2024, under the 14th sanctions package against Russia.
Sanctioned individuals are held responsible for actions threatening Ukraine's territorial integrity. They are banned from entering EU countries and financial transactions with them are prohibited.
