"The safe return of Western Azerbaijanis to their ancestral lands must be ensured."
Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group Abbas Abbasov spoke about the international conference "Right to Return and Self-Determination: Double Standards and Selective Approaches" held at the US Congress.
He stated that Azerbaijan has no territorial claims. The conference was attended by researchers, lawyers, and decolonization experts living in the US.
"We held negotiations months ago, presenting historical and legal facts from open sources. The experts formed an objective position."
Two key points were emphasized: Azerbaijan has no territorial claims; Armenia's sovereignty is not affected. The issue is a fundamental right of return for every citizen.
Rights must be ensured based on the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 1951 Geneva Convention on the Status of Refugees. Although Armenians complicate the issue, the safe return of people must simply be ensured.
