Climate Change Traps Pollution Over Baku

ANAS scientist explains how climate change traps pollution over Baku. Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan launch joint air quality project.

Temperature over the Caspian Sea has risen by 1.2°C, and by 3°C in Iran's mountainous regions. This prevents pollutants from dispersing over Baku.

Elnur Safarov, chief researcher at ANAS, stated during a WUF13 panel organized by IDEA Public Union that climate change hinders the spread of pollution.

Azerbaijani and Uzbek scientists have launched a joint air quality monitoring project. Pilot areas: Absheron Peninsula, Baku, and Sumgait. They plan to install measurement stations and create a 72-hour forecasting system.

The scientist emphasized that international cooperation, satellite data, and modeling are essential to combat air pollution.
