EV market decline: reasons revealed

Azerbaijan's EV imports drop 30%. Experts cite infrastructure gaps and end of tax breaks.

In the first quarter of this year, Azerbaijan imported 15,351 vehicles, down 33.1% year-on-year. Electric vehicle imports fell by 30.1%. Experts have explained the reasons behind this downturn.

Transport expert Eldeniz Jafarov said the main issue is weak infrastructure: charging stations are concentrated in Baku and Absheron, with few in regions. Additionally, the expiration of tax incentives has raised prices.

Economist Asif Ibrahimli noted that a massive import wave before incentives ended created excess supply, now being absorbed. He predicts that interest in EVs will rise again in the long term as infrastructure improves.
