Former imam of Haji Beyverdi mosque in Sumgait's Haji Zeynalabdin settlement, Taleh Sadigov, has been detained following a complaint by his son.
Born in 1977, Sadigov faces charges under Article 515.0.2 of the Administrative Offenses Code for violating rules of religious gatherings.
His son Yavar Sadigov testified in court that he stopped praying, straining relations with his father.
Sadigov confirmed the dispute but claimed the gatherings were scientific discussions, not religious rituals.
The court found him guilty and imposed a fine of 1,500 manat.
