A citizen claims to have been scammed while trying to buy a vehicle from a popular car listing website.
According to complainant Avez Jabbarov speaking to Baku TV, he was interested in a car ad posted online on May 19.
The ad stipulated an initial payment of 6,500 manats and a monthly credit installment of 515 manats for 30 months. Jabbarov stated that after contacting the seller, he went to the specified address to inspect the vehicle.
"The person claiming to be the owner told me the car was at his father's place. We went, looked at it, and liked it. Then his father took a total of 1,115 manats from me. The goal was to sign a preliminary sale agreement because I wanted to buy the car on credit. But after the credit issue came up, I couldn't reach those people," he said.
According to the complainant, although the car is currently in his possession under a power of attorney, another person later emerged claiming to be the actual owner.
"Someone came forward and said, 'I am the owner of the car.' He stated that he does not know the people I paid the deposit to. And it is no longer possible to contact those individuals," Jabbarov added.
Police are said to be investigating the matter.
