Azerbaijan is amending the law "On Information, Informatization and Information Protection." One of the most discussed clauses is the restriction on children under 16 opening social media accounts.
The use of social platforms by minors is widely debated globally. Experts highlight the impact of short videos on attention, memory, and information perception.
In an interview, Dr. Yevgeni Komarovsky discusses internet safety, parental control, and media literacy.
Komarovsky: "Children have unlimited access to information. Parents' task is not to ban but to create a safe environment."
He calls social media a risk factor for mental health but sees the main problem in lack of parental supervision.
"Media literacy is digital immunity. Schools must prepare children for real life, which includes the internet."
Schools should apply systematic rules for smartphone use, not outright bans.
