Alexander Hecazi, associate professor at the University of Geneva, stated that Karabakh has the potential to become an example of an integrated approach to recovery based on global standards, including the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Oxu.Az reports that he spoke at an event in Baku within WUF13 titled "Resilience and Urbicide: Sustainable Urban Development and Resilient Communities."

According to him, post-conflict reconstruction of territories is a unique window of opportunity to apply modern sustainable development standards.

"Reconstruction creates a rare opportunity to embed sustainable principles from the start, rather than adding them later," he noted.

Hecazi emphasized the importance of learning from past recovery mistakes, including insufficient involvement of local communities in the process.
