The Ganja Court of Appeals rejected the appeal of Royal Tagiyev, accused of murdering a woman by setting her on fire in Tovuz.
The court upheld the original verdict of 9 years in prison.
Tagiyev was charged under Article 126.3 of the Criminal Code (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in death), but pleaded not guilty, claiming it was an accident.
He said he wanted to end their relationship, but the victim insisted on a final meeting. During the meeting, she poured gasoline on herself, and his cigarette ignited it.
Tagiyev claimed they extinguished the flames and took her to the hospital. However, the court found him guilty.
