A medieval settlement has been discovered on the Caspian Sea coast near Lankaran.

According to the Lankaran Regional Scientific Center of ANAS, archaeologists Samir Karimov, Anar Aghalarzadeh, Winfried Held, and Latife Summerer found pottery fragments dating back to the 11th-13th centuries during a survey.

Experts believe the area once housed a medieval settlement. Rising sea levels have partially submerged the site.

Future underwater archaeological research is planned.
