A ministerial meeting will be held in Baku as a new initiative during the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), scheduled from May 17-22.
The meeting coincides with the mid-term review of the 20-year implementation of the New Urban Agenda. Participants will assess progress, identify challenges, and shape the next phase.
Under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan, the meeting on May 17, 2026, will bring together government representatives to review implementation and discuss priorities until 2036. In line with WUF13's theme "Homes for All: Safe and Sustainable Cities," special attention will be paid to housing.
The ministerial meeting provides a platform for experience exchange, gap identification, and strengthening commitments. It will also boost political momentum ahead of the 2026 UN General Assembly high-level review.
Participants will discuss housing's role in social inclusion, economic prosperity, and environmental sustainability. Discussions will cover national approaches and priorities for the next phase.
The event will start with a high-level dialogue featuring the Government of Azerbaijan, UN-Habitat, and UN representatives, followed by ministerial statements. Three thematic panels will address housing for social inclusion, economic well-being, and climate-resilient urban planning.
The meeting will conclude with the adoption of a Chair's Summary document, which will contribute to global reporting processes and WUF13's final documents, including the Baku Call to Action.
