A proposal has been made to remove the word "arvad" (wife) from Azerbaijani legislation. MP Bahruz Maharramov raised the issue during a parliamentary session discussing gender equality.
"In our laws, we still refer to women as 'arvad'. Language evolves, and no woman wants to be addressed with this term," he stated.
The MP suggested changes to the Family Code and eventually the Constitution. He emphasized preserving national family values while addressing gender issues.
"We must be cautious. Some Western circles exploit 'gender equality' to undermine our moral values. Azerbaijan does not need foreign models; our traditions are sufficient," he added.
