The next episode of Baku TV's project "Look What We Returned" is dedicated to the Khojavand district.
The ancient history of the region is closely connected with the Azikh Cave, discovered in 1960 by archaeologist Mammadali Huseynov. In 1968, a jawbone of an ancient human was found here, proving that Azerbaijan is one of the early habitations of human civilization.
For centuries, this strategic area preserved ancient Albanian temples and rich cultural traces. But from 1988, it became a target of Armenian military aggression. On October 2, 1992, Khojavand was occupied, the population displaced, and historical monuments brutally destroyed.
However, in the autumn of 2020, the glorious Azerbaijani Army restored the centuries-old memory of the Azikh Cave. The liberation of Hadrut in October 2020 became a turning point in the Patriotic War. In September 2023, as a result of local anti-terror measures, Khojavand district was completely cleared of separatists and regained its freedom.
