Researchers from Harvard and the University of Virginia have found that remote work negatively impacts employees' mental health.
According to Oxu.Az, the study was published in the journal Science.
Scientists analyzed survey data from over 500,000 Americans.
After switching to remote work, employees increased their working hours by an average of 1.2 hours and reduced face-to-face communication.
The likelihood of going several days without any social contact increased significantly.
Such cases lead to chronic stress, which can develop into anxiety disorders or depression in the long run.
The study also showed that remote workers maintain fewer informal contacts with colleagues and participate less in social events. Employees living alone are the most vulnerable group.
