The Ashabi-Kahf shrine in Nakhchivan witnesses large crowds, especially during Eid al-Adha.
According to Baku TV, visitors sacrifice animals at the lower part of the complex and then ascend to perform their prayers.
Ashabi-Kahf has been a place of faith for centuries. Historian Asaf Orujov notes traces of ancient Turkic beliefs: tree, stone, and water cults.
Orujov says: "According to belief, water dripping from the ceiling onto you signifies that your wishes will be accepted. Even during Soviet times, people visited secretly."
