Sona Salmanova, former deputy chair of the Constitutional Court, has started practicing law. She was admitted to the Bar Association and took an oath.
Having worked as a lawyer for many years, Salmanova was appointed a judge of the Constitutional Court in 1998 and deputy chair in 2005. She completed her tenure in 2025.
Salmanova is the wife of Huseyn Alikhanov, former deputy head of the Penitentiary Service and major general of justice. Alikhanov served in justice bodies since 2004 and was deputy head of the Penitentiary Service from 2007 to 2018.
General Alikhanov gained notoriety in 2018 after prisoners escaped from a special train car. He was dismissed from his post following the incident.
