A new reform in the education system: plan places for specialties with low labor market demand are being gradually reduced. Pedagogical specialties are included.
Minister of Science and Education Emin Amrullayev stated that reducing enrollment in some universities aims to improve quality. From the next academic year, physical education training will be discontinued at secondary specialized institutions.
Head of the Azerbaijan Young Teachers Association, Parvina Gadinova, emphasizes: "The goal is not to reduce the number of teachers, but to increase quality. Weak programs must be revised."
Senior lecturer at ADPU, Khalida Hamidova, warns: "Abrupt reduction of the enrollment plan will not be successful. Universities' financial situation may worsen, and tuition fees may increase."
Expert Ilgar Orucov supports the reform: "It is part of the strategy to move from quantity to quality. Every year, 25,000 plan places face only 8,000-10,000 vacancies."
