Loud engine noises coming from streets at night are causing public complaints. Some drivers install special mufflers to create a sports style, modifying their cars.
Even some bloggers and mechanics advertise these modifications as legal, encouraging drivers. However, if detected by traffic police, drivers face fines and must restore the car to its original condition.
Transport expert Eldeniz Jafarov said: "If a car has a factory noise level of 90 decibels, no fine is imposed. But the maximum allowed noise is 96 decibels. A device emitting 98 decibels results in a 500 manat fine."
Experts warn that unprofessional modifications negatively affect engine performance and increase fuel consumption.
