During the Soviet era, Azerbaijan had 56 pioneer camps. After independence, they gradually closed. Even the "Lokomotiv" camp in Pirshagi is now abandoned.
According to Oxu.Az citing Baku TV, these camps played a vital role in helping children spend their summer breaks productively, engage in sports, and socialize. Their closure leads to children becoming dependent on technology.
Education expert Leyla Guliyeva said: "These camps were designed for students aged 9-14. There, they would gain new knowledge and make friends. The camps helped broaden students' horizons, integrate into society, and socialize. Unfortunately, they are now closed. We hope these programs will be reinstated."
