The global urban future will be built with solutions shaped by local governments, or not built at all.
Oxu.Az reports that these remarks were made by Clara Brugada, Mayor of Mexico City and President of WUF14 to be held in Mexico in 2028, at the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments held during the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
She stated that the decisions made by local governments within WUF13 are far more significant than the world has yet fully realized: "The crises of our time recognize neither borders nor scales. The climate crisis, housing issues, inequality, and various forms of violence affect both urban and rural areas. Cities and local governments are key players in history. With the resources we have, we strive to meet people's needs."
The mayor invited WUF13 participants to WUF14: "Our doors are open to each of you. Let us discuss the challenges of our cities together. You can also see Mexico's experience."
