A new study shows that climate change is shrinking habitats and increasing extinction risks for many plant species.
Researchers modeled future ranges for over 67,000 vascular plant species. They found that 7-16% could lose more than 90% of their range.
Examples include Catalina ironwood, bluish spike-moss, and about one third of Eucalyptus species.
The scientists note that climate change reduces suitable habitat, and simply moving species may not solve the problem.
Protecting plant diversity is essential for ecosystem stability and human well-being.
