The United States temporarily banned entry of lawful permanent residents who have been in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda or South Sudan in the previous 21 days over Ebola concerns.

Previously exempt from a 30-day Ebola ban, green card holders now face restrictions as the CDC deems it necessary to stop the virus from entering the country.

The CDC said the move balances public health protection and emergency response resources.

The World Health Organization raised the risk of the rare Bundibugyo Ebola strain turning into a national outbreak in the DRC to "very high" and declared the outbreak an international emergency.

The initial order was issued under Title 42, which allows prohibiting migrants entry to prevent spread of contagious diseases.
