In the southern United States, remains of an ancient crocodile species that moved on two legs from the Triassic period have been discovered.
Oxu.Az reports, citing TASS, that the press service of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (NHM) announced this.
It was stated that the newly discovered species, "Labrujasuchus expectatus," resembles bipedal predatory dinosaurs that lived in later geological periods more than modern crocodiles. This ancient creature walked on two legs and had a toothless jaw and a beak-like mouth structure.
The archaeological remains were found during excavations in the "Ghost Ranch" area in New Mexico, one of the most famous geological sites of the Triassic period.
According to scientists, these creatures lived about 212 million years ago. Their skeletal structure, especially the shoulder and leg bones, suggests that they may be the "missing link" in the evolution of bipedal crocodile-like reptiles.
