A Chicago court in the US has ordered Boeing to pay $49.5 million in compensation to the family of Samya Stumo, who died in the March 2019 crash of an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX.
According to Fana TV, the decision was approved by the jury. This is not the first compensation in this case. Last year, a court ordered Boeing to pay $28.4 million to the wife of another victim, Shikha Garg.
After Boeing admitted liability for the faulty automated system that caused the crash, individual compensation claims began to be filed. The company has already paid large sums, including $1.77 billion to airlines such as Ethiopian Airlines and $500 million to a compensation fund for victims' relatives.
The Boeing 737 MAX crashed six minutes after takeoff from Addis Ababa on March 10, 2019, killing all 157 people on board.
