Scientists are warning that the return of the El Niño climate event could pose serious risks to food security and public health in several regions.
According to Oxu.Az, citing The Guardian, research shows a direct link between malaria outbreaks in Ethiopia and El Niño. Scientist Voyessa said, "Food supply is critical to mitigate the impacts of climate change."
The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts a 63% chance of El Niño peaking by the end of the year. Australia's Bureau of Meteorology has also warned of intensified extreme heat and wildfires.
Experts recall that El Niño has previously caused severe economic and humanitarian crises. Some scientists have informally dubbed this event a "super El Niño" due to expected sharp temperature differences.
