An Australian court has upheld a fine imposed by the regulator on Elon Musk's X Corp (formerly Twitter).
The court's decision came after the company admitted to violating the law by failing to submit a timely official report on child online safety measures. This ends a legal dispute that lasted nearly three years.
The eSafety regulator, often targeted by Musk online, fined the company in October 2023 for inadequate responses to standard information requests about combating child exploitation. Eventually, X platform admitted its guilt and resolved the litigation amicably.
During the Federal Court hearing, Chrisopher Tran, lawyer for the Internet Safety Commissioner, stated that the respondent formally acknowledged the legal violation under Australia's Online Safety Act.
This step concludes a large-scale legal process that began when the regulator fined the company A$610,500 (approximately US$400,000) for failing to provide full answers to 25 questions.
