Uber, Nvidia and Autobrains have announced plans to launch a driverless robotaxi service in Munich, Germany.
According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine newspaper, the new service will combine Uber's taxi ordering platform, Nvidia's Nvidia Drive Hyperion autonomous driving platform, and Autobrains' AI-based technologies.
In a joint statement, the companies said the exact launch date has not been disclosed, but the robotaxis are expected to begin operation this year. The project first requires official approval from Germany's regulatory authorities.
It was also reported that a special vehicle equipped with Autobrains software is currently being tested on Munich's streets.
Driverless taxis are already widely used in the US and China. In Europe, the first such service launched in Zagreb, Croatia, in early May this year.
