Iran's military has expanded the area under naval control in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Oxu.Az, the deputy commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Mohammad Akbarzadeh, spoke about this.
"Previously, the Strait of Hormuz was considered a limited area around Hormuz and Hengam islands, but now this view has changed. Under the newly adopted strategy, the boundaries of the strait have been significantly expanded," the Tasnim agency quoted him as saying.
According to the Iranian military official, while earlier the area was 20-30 miles (about 32-48 km) wide, now this distance exceeds 200-300 miles (about 321-482 km), stretching from the settlements of Jask and Sirik to areas behind Qeshm and Greater Tomb islands.
Recall that on April 13, the U.S. armed forces began imposing a naval blockade against Iran. The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) stated it aimed to stop all vessels heading to or from Iranian ports. On May 4, the U.S. launched Operation "Project Freedom" to ensure passage through the Strait of Hormuz, but a day later, the U.S. president announced the operation was temporarily suspended.
