Kazakhstan has established new state governance bodies. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed several constitutional laws.
The newly created "People's Kenes of Kazakhstan" will serve as a supreme advisory body. It aims to ensure national dialogue and increase civil society's participation in domestic policy. The Kenes has the right to legislative initiative and to call for a national referendum.
Tokayev also approved a law introducing a unicameral parliament – the Qurultai. It will consist of 145 deputies elected for a 5-year term.
A new vice-president institution has been introduced. The vice-president will represent the president's interests in interactions with state bodies as assigned.
