Several UK government ministers are pressuring Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Finance Minister Rachel Reeves to increase defense spending.
Oxu.Az reports, citing Bloomberg sources within the government.
The initiative was first proposed by former Defense Secretary John Healey. The UK is reassessing its military budget amid shifting geopolitical tensions and the threat of war in Europe.
At least three prominent ministers insist on urgent measures and major investments in the defense industry. New Defense Secretary Dan Jarvis, a former paratrooper who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, has not yet joined the group.
Military analysts say Jarvis's cautious stance may reflect an attempt to balance economic realities with military needs.
The ministers have not received any official guarantee from the PM for a budget increase. Starmer admitted to Politico that he couldn't secure an immediate boost.
Starmer has made tough decisions: cutting international aid and redirecting resources from other departments to the military. Experts warn these austerity measures could spark political crises.
